fighting cancer by making cancer cells happy

hats tips to all who have to fight this monster.

The game you play in fighting cancer, at least one of them,
is to see the cancer cells weak spots, and go after it.

When the little naughty cancer cell divides uncontrollably, it makes a blob of cells.   various bodily forces are triggered, and blood vessels actually grow into the ball of cells, so they get on the body's food plan, and get fed fresh oxygen and nutrients from the blood.   The blood vessels are hastily made, and not made that well, so the cancer cells do feel like they are starved of oxygen much of the time.  This might be a bad thing for a cancer blob,  but strangely enough, when a radiation beam is thrown at it, the very fact the cells are starving of air/nutrients, actually makes it harder to kill.  Maybe its like a homeless person layiing out in the grass, can take one more punch and survive, compared to tipping an obese sausage fest  participant off of his chair and he dies.
So your dose of radiation has to be higher than otherwise, because the starving cancer cells are extra tough buggers.

Well, this gave a scientist the bright idea, of finding a medicine that could help the starving cancer cells get better blood flow.   So he and his lowly team of grad students just randomely tested one medicine after another to see if it would make blood flow better  thru the cancer cells.   After some while they got a hit, a medicine that has been around 150 years already.
Papaverine, was isolated from the poppy bulbs, of opium fame, by the son of  the man who started Merck Corp, way back in 1848.  It has a variety of uses, one of them as one drug to tread E.D.  It has this property of making muscles relax.
What they do in this current instance, is inject the cancer cell blob with Papaverine, blood vessels relax, letting more blood flow in the cancer blob of cells, so now they are not starved of oxygen, so about a half hour later, they hit the cancer cells  by a radiation beam,  cancer blob  dies about twice as readily.

So approval should be fast, since the drug only has to be approved for this new use, to help save all my good friends who got hit by cancer

Happy Travels!
