Viva Puerto Rico

A lil Dedication to my fellow Taino Ricans

I'm the history of the word
Taino Indian verb
Sending smoke signals and courier birds
my slang carried southerners
to the free land
between lines and verses

learned how to read & write from
Writing life back into our leaders in hearses
Columbus brought Measles & Curses
Tried to take our cotton and gold
How the story is told
But we are too proud to be silent

Viva Puerto Rico!!!

Many say we're just a lazy tongue
But you just complicated the songs we sung
Coz "laaaa"is a song and "the" just can't sing
Derived from Arawak
survived in Latin swing

my people bring...
culture to land and sky
Broke bread and beat drums
To Zemi Gods til we amplified
Played poems off maracas dressed in sea shells
while medicine men speak spells

We are Cultivated Caribbeans with flowers in our hair and pride in our hearts and will always be the Taino Tribe.
