Victimize

It may seem strange that they made me cry, made me lie, and ultimately made me shy from a world so big, a world so bright. People always asked, "Well why didn't you put up a fight." VICTIMIZE.

Their number one goal is the degrade and demean me, be so mean to me, never pushed me, but made me have low self-esteem as a teen. VICTIMIZE.

Now, I'm screaming "SOMEONE PLEASE INTERVENE." But no one did because authority figures could not detect or suspect the affect of such verbal disrespect. VICTIMIZE.

Depression is my best friend mom and dad, yet they can't tell because I wasn't used as a punching bag, still I'm extremely sad, and to add I am now getting emails from them when I looked on my Ipad. VICTIMIZE.

Posting pictures on Facebook expecting likes, and maybe I just might get a special comment from the cute boy Mike. Instead in my comment section and inbox they strike. Saying how much I was this, and how much I was that. God please tell me why am I so disliked. VICTIMIZE.

They smell my weakness and at this point I feel only bleakness. Now I'm crying in the nurse's office not because of words or messages, but this time my fingers got shut in my locker and them bitches just ran and laughed. VICTIMIZE.

It started small with my fingers being slapped, then it turned into a slap to the face, and eventually punches to the back. Bruises and scars to everything; my emotional, psychological, health, and well-being. VICTIMIZE.

Excluded from social groups and networks because not only do I feel ugly. I look it too. Their need for attention or feelings of jealousy has caused me to move toward substance abuse. Taking razors to the wrist, "like man fuck this shit," I'll take the risk. VICTIMIZE.

I ask, "what can you do for me Mr. and Mrs. Professional or Parent."
What can be done for me and others to not be shone away from school or everyday society.
One: Effective school-based bullying prevention involving a social-ecological whole school approach along with the application of a wide range of evidence-based approaches.
Two: Adopting anti-bullying policies to prevent or reduce bullying.
Three:   Training professionals to identify and respond to bullying situations.
Four: Engage students, families, and all school staff in prevention efforts to establish consistent expectations.

This will make me heal from all the pain of verbal, cyber, physical, social bullshit. VICTIMIZE no more with your help please!

Author's Note
During my Social Work 2 class, I had a project assigned on a particular stage of development and an issues that this group faces. The group I was in we all chose adolescents. We decided to focus on adolescents that have issues with different types of bullying. We had to write a paper and a powerpoint or some creative form of presentation. Therefore, the poem VICTIMIZE was born. I thought it would be very creative for our presentation to be a poem performed by me. I have also performed to poem on a podcast and in front of my other peers and professors at the University of the District of Columbia. This poem is a great representation of a people that experience any type of bullying and how help can be established better to prevent bullying in schools, jobs, and other places.
