Unconsidered Consequences

Are we responsible for what comes from out of mouth or pen
Are we responsible for cause and affect of our utterances
Do we take on board what we say and do without a twinge of guilt
And if we do have we lost the ability to read our own moral compass
Do we stop to think of the damage done or are we callous enough not to
Does our feeling of superiority extend to targeted and deliberate cruelty
Do we talk of love and forgiveness but hate an damage others in secret
Will we leave it until it's too late, when the boy who cried wolf was right

Do we know what shame is and how to feel it and how to avoid it
Or are we arrogant and so self absorbed that none of this really matters
The sad fact is that it does all matter, maybe not to you but it does to others
So many don't care about cause and affect but few would ever admit to that
Love is not in those who don't care about the cause and affect they create
These people kill at will, kill for the thrill, pick on those perceived to be weaker
Then they cry crocodile tears at graveyards wakes and websites saving face

There's a man who is unhappy
He has a small penis seen in
The shower room at his work
His colleagues hatefully tease
One day he's had enough
And in a fit of rage he goes home
And brutally rapes his wife

There's a woman who is depressed
She has spent the last ten years
Looking after her disabled mother
At a church group coffee morning
She catches up with her group
They are negative about her life
"Put her in a home, live your own life!"
And in a fit of rage goes home
And smothers her mother to death

There is a young male teen perplexed
Different from his peers, a loner not by choice
He's spat on, bullied and is made to live in fear
His parents tell him he needs to harden up
And stop playing the victim: So he does!
And in a fit of rage goes back to school
With thee handguns and a pump action shot gun
17 dead 28 injured and one death by police

There is a young female teen living in fear
Her uncle does unspeakable things to her
She tells Mum - "I don't believe you, liar!"
She tells Dad - Now interested he does the same
She tells her brother, he calls her a lying slut
Still raging she gets up while the family sleep
She sits in the front yard douses herself in fuel
And burns herself to a crisp: The family mourn

There's a man with physical and mental health issues
He gets bullied and abused as an easy target
Not the community's fool but a kick bag of sorts
The recruited crowd assemble, pitch forks and flames
They join together - Frankenstein must be destroyed!
Other stand by like audience members watching a quiz show
Few care but it is all too late as is the baying crowd
He sees he is worthless and puts a gun in his mouth

There's a woman with physical and mental health issues
She gets bullied and abused as an easy target
Not the community's fool but a kick bag of sorts
The recruited crowd assemble, pitch forks and flames
They join together - The Witch must be destroyed!
Other stand by like audience members watching a soap
Few care but it is all too late as is the baying crowd
She knows there is no rescue coming and slits her wrists

At the end of the day cause and affect does matter
If you don't feel it then you are not breathing
You are or have become sub-human
