Honest, Look
You wouldn't find the truth attractive
she would be rough, common, no make up and her scars would show
they would show yourself, cruelty reflective
he would be an unsettling older man and he's lingering and slow
his presence feels like an invasion of privacy
you can't see he's been through battle, his legs are shot
you can outrun him easily, mug him, steal his security
if the truth were young, you'd look past their looks, but they would not
they'd ruin your impression of them fast
you'd want to hurt them, but feel too sorry to
for you'd know nothing they have would ever last
you'd walk away knowing less about them, yet somehow more about you.
That's the point, the truth isn't easy to face
it's a downtown person in an uptown place
an undeniable natural beauty, ruined when you try to make it look good
it would be nice if you could see it and feel how you think you should
it's as much a mirror as a window, your inward feelings and outward views
you can see your truth and where it came from; how it's affected you and others too.
