Verzanelle Nr.02 — Glass Ceiling

It was a mundane Monday afternoon
when she realised she’d hit the glass ceiling.
Men only passed here to the upper rooms.

The shock sent her reeling - - - -
this was 1990, and still too soon?
She realised she’d hit the glass ceiling

6,000 years of Patriarchy croons
new talk of equality and feelings …
but this was 1990 - and still too soon?

She wondered ‘bout the value of appealing
‘gainst subtle ways she’d been lampooned
despite talk of equality and feelings

“But what can I say to these three buffoons?”
she contemplated, seething
from the degrading way she’d been lampooned

“Perhaps Western Culture is still teething …”
It was a mundane Monday afternoon
as she stood there, contemplative, seething
how men only still passed to the upper rooms.

Author's Note
This is a 'Verzanelle' poem, invented by myself as a special tighter form (only two rhyme-endings) of the Terzanelle, which itself is a combination of the Villanelle with the 'Terza Rima' form.
