They like to nibble on the toes.

lol! Hey, good morning, Andy.
I was standing in a stream while camping in Yosemite. The stream was cold from snow runoff from the previous winter season. This particular trout was definitely into ankles.
Awww, gosh thanks for the RL listing.

Ooh my goodness, sweetheart, thank you! I’m moved by the honor, and for something I hadn’t thought about for a long time. A haiku of mine on a card that’s part of a deck to a game. Twenty-six haiku representing the English alphabet, and I was one of twenty-six poets who were in the deck - amazing!

Pt 2 of my reply:
Karuta (かるた, from Portuguese carta ["card"])[1] are Japanese playing cards. Playing cards were introduced to Japan by the Portuguese traders during the mid-16th century.
(just a little background)

Yes, exactly. I’m glad I was sorting through an ornate box in my bedroom and found the deck early this morning.
I’m touched how enthusiastic you are by this. It represents the first few months of my existence as a novice haijin.

The Portuguese traders also gave the Japanese the word "arigato" (Portuguese = obrigado) for 'thankyou'.

LOL Tim! That’s so funny being asked that!
But no, it was tiny tender touches around my left ankle, as the cold cold water gurgled all about - almost a happy laughing effect... the early light still misty as the new sun was being born.

Fine work, and ten years old! I love the image and simplicity of this. The layout too!

Thank you, my dear friend! And yes, the simplicity. It was my early apprenticeship as a novice haijin. For six months, I learned to pare everything down to the bare minimum, to then start from there.

How sweet...I've always wanted to visit Yosemite...looks like paradise...
Dark Sun.

Thank you, and yes, Sun, it was when I was there. I’d also been there much earlier when I was five years old. What adventures I had!
And bears would come through the campsites before dawn, foraging for food wherever humans had supplies in flatbed trucks, set up by where they’d prep food. We were lucky they stirred clear of the tents where everyone was, huddled in sleeping bags, mostly waiting till the animals were finished tearing through the camp, banging around, till they finally left. I wasn’t afraid at all. I couldn’t believe that all of my storybooks were coming true!

Bears...sounds scary...I remember seeing a very large moose in Canada once. I love being in the wild...especially the mountains. Thanks Jade.

What intriguing experiences you’ve lived! That is a lovely card befitting your haiku.

My gracious thanks to you, lovely nightbird. I’m honored & touched by your words. And yes, Peng did a totally different card for each poet’s ‘ku featured. When I was chosen as the letter “S” card, being the newest & youngest poet in the deck, I was overcome with gratitude by this.
