Image for the poem violet dawn

violet dawn

the day wept purple tears
in the violet dawn
little blooms of regret dotted the land
within the garden of sadness

a place I once play
I know the landscape well
traveling there now in my mind

you are there in my tree of doubt
in this sacred denizen
the holder of my secrets

I climb its great branches
and sit awhile with you
a haunting spirit
for you're no longer with me

this is a private place
I created when I was young
a place to hide from the world
it was my only escape

so many specters are held here
memories I keep when I can't let go
of them all, you are the most real
I can smell and taste you still

the winds of fate blow through its leaves
reminding it's time to move forward
with one final glance back at you
I climb to the ground

I pick a flower of grief
each petal scribe with my story
one of love and passion
it is no more
this is the season for goodbye

in my garden I am mistress
keeper over the gate to my heart
so why are you here to plague me
with thoughts of why?
no answers will come

the day cry purple tears
in the violet dawn
and I wept bitterly
for a love no more
