Image for the poem Salvation Street

Salvation Street

She lived in a cardboard box
A rough life on Salvation Street
Predators circling at her scent
And distinctive way with doner clothes

She had done the jail time
Did psych wards for her vagrant ways
She still dumped her several meds
And refused suggested therapy

I was to share her shaky digs
But the rain collapsed it on concrete
So we simply kept each other warm
And kept the human sharks away

She finally up and disappeared
Left a note that said "Farewell"
Could never find her to this day
And pray that she had left street hell.
