an abundance of sky

youth

cheap beer poured
down our throats
with the roar
of Niagara

pot burned like
wildfire to the
felt thought
rhythms of
Davis, Mingus
and E.L.P.

lovers were
sunshine
spilling over
our bodies in
the gymnastics
of vulgar night

life had not
yet choked
the life out
of us

we were proud
stallions and
we ran

and ran

and ran

until there was
nothing in front
of us except an
abundance
of sky
