-The One-

Slow, Country Ballad

Well, I've heard through friends your life's been good and I'm glad you're
doing so fine.
I don't know why I'm still alive, 'cause God don't answer His line.
But every now and then I think of you, though my heart still breaks in two.
And I never understood what went so wrong but I sing this song for you.

Now, how do you say goodbye to everything that ever was? From the first
time I met you, to those I've lost but always loved.
But, gone is gone ain't never coming back, don't matter how deep it sliced.
Still, I belong to you...My soul does too...Don't care the cost nor price.

                                                  -Chorus-

So long ago and so far away but still it feels like yesterday.
Am I really that old or just so lost and as bad as they say?
A wish to get back when time was so right. When we held each other 'til the
morning's light.
Can you ever forgive my selfish pride and love me again with all your
might?

                                                   -Bridge-

It's funny how much a life is changed when Fate decides your pain.
The could've beens...The should've beens...They've all gone up in flames.
Now only in dreams do you come to me and I'll forget my nightmares fear.
'Cause it feels so good to love again, with you my friend, 'til the morn comes
raining tears.

If that damned ole Fate had head our song and only helped along the way.
I would've been with you, that much is true. Forever 'til old and gray.
So, I'll pretend you're in my bed smiling so serene. And everything's alright,
as I hold you tight, 'cause you've made my life worth being.

                                                -Chorus-

So long ago and so far away but still it feels like yesterday.
Am I really that old or just so lost and as bad as they say?
A wish to get back when time was right so right. When we held each other 'til
the morning's light.
Can you ever forgive my selfish pride and love me again with all your might?

                                      -Instrumental, then Bridge-

So, with head in hand I'll sit a bit while I ponder this life contrived.
And as I live the regrets, I'm taking no bets, that I make it out alive.
But, the one thing that I do know when I see my final sunrise,
I will pray to God that the Devil don't call, so together were side-by-side.

                                        -Instrumental and Fade-
