Story Poem, Nr.04 — Interference Pattern

   
The bullet  
manufactured in an alien factory  
considered its value in terms of ‘negative capability’  
   
cloaked in a mask of religious acceptability  
it struck its recipient near the heart -  
passed on through, then out.  
   
Job done, and due to in-built obsolescence  
it hit a rock behind and eventually  
pinged to a squashed halt.  
   
Amazingly the soldier survived  
and on leaving hospital some months later  
considered his value in terms of experiencing life    
   
wearing a different hat.  
The story is not finished. It lives on  
in the shocked memories of family and friends  
   
and the bullet, British made    
and whose assembly-line worker they will never know  
is slowly being buried in the undergrowth  
   
of an ever-changing landscape.
