Swaying With Sonic Youth

Sunburnt beneath the changing sky
a marathon day
thousands crammed in a field
sweaty and high

The headliner takes the stage
the lighting shifts
sliding from blue to purple
inviting night to descend

I recognize that girl;
-many from our town
travelled to this Lollapalooza
- the mecca of alternative music

She grabs my hand
and drags me into the crowd
dissonant chords span forever
and we are drawn into the trance

We find a rhythm in the noise
she stands in front of me
the thin fabric of her skirt
moving like a curtain

And soon she has pushed against me
improvised chaos between each verse
her ass guiding me
to follow the movement

And she seems to know I am hard
as she works against me
in a slow-grinding friction
my hands locked against her midriff

The joints in the day were abundant
and something transformative is at play
the buzz has me in a zone
induced by the alchemy of the music

We continue in this dance
and I feel as if I've entered her
my body locked in a sensation
that we are merged

For the duration of the set
we move like this
solidly fixed
in the mayhem of the music

Years later,
I will remind her of the incident
forgotten between many lovers
and she is honoured to retrieve the memory.
