Blame To Go Around

In these days of turbulence thoughts go wild
as to how our society came to this moment  
I am not given to incomplete factorial analysis  
suggesting that citizens are all gullible, ignorant, or idiotic  
forty five's mark and legacy  
 
It isn't enough to just say a pure evil entity  
occupies the Oval Office  
for if any credence can be given  
to campaign rhetoric  
 
Don't misconstrue my meaning
orange man's actions are uniquely his own  
oh yes you can see differences  
between the man and the lady who is the wife of "the man"  
 
But go back to that conflict in Iraq
to embracing killer Kissinger  
the approval of fracking  
of trade deals that weakened domestic labor  
and the acidic primary and general election activities  
 
A campaign headed by a man who made his money  
courting Congress for the merchants of war  
the intersectionality played to the hilt  
polarizing factions that should have been allies  
backed by the chief character assassin of a woman  
who took on a now firmly seated Surpreme Court Justice  
 
But the mantra served around the nation
is how Bernie "Bros" and Doctor Stein did her in  
but wait that slogan then changes to a conspiracy  
of sexists and racist one day  
then socialists aligned with a foreign entity  
and the next day young people and their naiviety  
 
As if the Independent from Vermont  
whose voting record is way more progressive  
then any senator in the senate  
as if he outdid Eugene McCarthy's detachment  after Kennedy's death in sixty eight  
or Nader, ignoring Sanders' passioned endorsement and speeches  
 
Recounting the unforced errors the assumptions held
believing the weight of being favored enthusiastically by two  
past presidents and the nod of the many polls  
guarrented her ascendence to the White House  
 
For if we attribute blame forcefully to all except ourselves  
do we not make a mimicry of our own power  
old axiom that we can't control how others act
but we do have control over how we respond  
 
By no stretch do I care to condone the vulgarity we can't avoid  
but is there a lesson to learned in what it means  
to be skilled at running a successful bid for office  
which isn't the same as what it takes to be skilled at governance?
