#Communication
Something that has brought us together throughout the years
Something that has allowed civilizations to rise from their primitive beginning
A gift that only we humans possess and are ungrateful for
The ability to write and speak the words that will forever be retained within the worn pages of a book
We are a sociable species, even those of us who claim to be anti-social
The average woman speaks 20,000 words a day; the average man, only 7,000
Being quiet is not a crime; some people are just better listeners
Yet the true crime is what anyone can see by walking down the streets of any city in the 21st century
You may also be a participator of this horrific trend
We have lost our ability to communicate; instead we rely on texts using a rapidly disintegrating vocabulary
Instead of conversing face to face, people prefer to remain anonymous even if they are in the same room
I am an old soul trapped in the confines of a people that is slowing losing their humanity
Most people do not even answer their phone calls, but they are quick to reply to a text

Marshall McCluhan wrote way back in the 60s that humanity is the reproductive organ of technology...now that technology can reproduce itself it sometimes seems we are being played with, like pets...but we can transcend...at least those of us who remain conscious in the new social paradigm...and through our transcendence the floodgates will be opened...you are not alone LC

Interested in how we can 'transcend technology' - an idea suggested by Jacques Ellul (also in the 1960s) in his book "The Technological Society". Maybe the only way is to say "no" to certain technologies in our lives and in so doing this is "an act for freedom that transcends technology"?

That would be hard. So many people are reliant on technology that they'll panic if they realize that they don't have their phones on them.

I agree with you as far as the face-to-face part of the diagnosis is concerned. But communication by text has been an integral part of civilization for millenia. Nowadays it is a chance to communicate for people who'd never meet in real life, e.g. here on DUP.

I was emphasizing more on the fact that people who gather together often spend more time on their phones rather than speaking to each other. They'll even text people in the same room with them.
Re. #Communication
I agree with your observation about the younger generation....there you see played out the shadow side of technology, as intended by the powers that be, who steer society into the world of transhumanism and elevate technology to be the new god. To me technology is just a tool....it's up to me how I use it...as a weapon or for good. We have to use things with care and discernment.

"... technology is just a tool ..." I agree but when technology structures the whole of a society it's hard to keep it as a simple tool. History shows the inventions which we develop to serve us tend to end up dominating us - the way we live, interact and think, etc.

Re: Re. #Communication
"Technology is just a tool"...you are right...unfortunately the powers that be, have set it up so they can now control people through technology, since the goal is to usher in transhumanism...the merging of men and machine, which is a very scary prospect. However it is still us who decides whether we want to stick our nose into out iphones all day, being dumbed down and reduced to the expression of emojis and being downloaded with all kinds of crap.
Your point well taken Josh.... I know it's far out of hand already....

Your'e right that trans-humanism is scary - and it's being pushed hard by certain forces, helped by the endlessly powerful narrative-ideology of "Technology is Progress".
All forms of power - technology, money, weaponry, governments, etc - accrue to those already in power. How long did it take that great 'democratising' technology called 'the internet' to become used as a global spy-machine?

Yeah...you are right. DARPA made sure everybody is hooked into the web. I just hope I am out of here before they mandate the brain chips and all the rest of it.

Re. #Communication
beautiful Luna you bring up an important issue
i'm worried that soon people will not even know how
to write in cursive anymore it's a fast deterioration of
the sacred knowledge of communication we've been given...
insert sad emoticon here for an ironic frown...
the truth of this makes me sad...
love Crim

It upsets me as well, crimsin. I learned how to write in cursive back in 5th grade, and although I don't usually write in cursive, I still remember how to.
Thanks for your comment, crimsin. Hopefully the future generations will go back to old traditions.

This is something which is bothering me for a while now and you wrote a great poem about it!
That even in a restaurant or café people are texting in stead of talking to the person in front of them, perplexes me! And we call that evolution???
Great observational write, LunasChild

It's tragic, but it's up to us to change this degradation. Thanks for your comment!
