Hard Man Blues

I miss him tonight;

the hardest man I knew
my dad
looking back knowing what I know now
I guess he had some weaknesses
but don't anyone tell me that
not to my face
he couldn't do no wrong

always on the move
one mistress after another
never let his heart get dust on it
kept it burning

moody boots planted firmly on the ground

he loved women
just not one woman for long
and that was fine with me
because I was his little girl
the only one who went with him
when he was done with a scenery

then we would pile in his old truck and head out
he knew one thing sure
there was never a shortage of them

women

who would love a hard man
give herself on a gamble
hopes of him falling in love on the table
never did though
he made sure it stayed that way

I never liked a man who falls too easy
something not to be trusted in that

blame my own dad;
for my love of a hard man
