A Deepened Shadow
The dusk sky blazed
above as its colors
Of orange and purple
Warmed the air.
The faint, glowing light
had bled into night
Despite its beauty,
A deepened shadow
Fractured this peace
As she was washed in a sudden,
Overpowering wave of anxiety
Which swept her away.
Her eyes shut tightly,
Praying for it to pass.
Only the fear lingered,
Tightening its grip until her chest
felt like it would snap.
With trembling hands, she reached
For the phone and sent a message.
She waited,
And waited,
Muttering over and over again,
"Please be there. Please, please, please."
Panic took over her mind:
Please! Answer!
Finally, the ellipsis appeared
as a ship on the horizon.
Her salvation.
"Are you okay?" the response read.
Her face broke out in laughter
As her eyes welled.
She was without words,
above as its colors
Of orange and purple
Warmed the air.
The faint, glowing light
had bled into night
Despite its beauty,
A deepened shadow
Fractured this peace
