art of misery 10

I want to pull you out of the fire
But I'm afraid to get burned
I can see the fire consuming you
I'm helpless I'm hoping you can pull through
With every fall of strand of hair
The lines on your lips start to tear
I wish I can do something other than standing there
I can see how the chemo isn't really helping you
I can see how it drives you insane and it's slowly killing you
I want to pull you out of the fire
But I'm afraid to get burned
My cure for the cancer has not yet been credited
Now I'm trapped at a cross road to pick between you and my work
One way or the other the choice I make now means I can never go back
One way or the other the choice I make now I'll one day regret
I can choose to save your life
And lose my dream of saving a thousand more lives
But is your life any less worth a thousand lives?
Is your life more worth than a thousand lives?
Pretty soon I can have my name in billboards
Pretty soon I can have my name written in stars
I worked forever to get to this point in life
But all this comes if I forsake my daughter's life
I want to pull you out of the fire
But I'm afraid to get burned
I can see the fire consuming you
I'm helpless I'm hoping you can pull through
This is a hero's art of misery
