They wriggle, writhing
in the shade on a bed of peat.
humble mattress, soft and warm,
see them, careless in their bliss
hermaphrodites tied in ecstasy,
Daphnis and Chloe, dreamed as these
paled in their delight. . . . . . . .

No marble halls for these
Humility their daily task,
Scorn their sole reward
Yet in the bowels of deep earth
Omnipresent and omnificent.
