Books we never read

Put your ear to the earth hear the messages.
What do they say? First, learn the language,
take down  books, neglected  shelves,
clasped between leather binding, cracked
and gilt edging to fading  pages   ...   ....
If only we had read   ...   ...   ...   ..If only.

Put away the mobile, climb  neglected shelves
stretch our limbs,take down  books
dust away  cobwebs, listen to the ground.
Who bound the books you hold,We do not know
the author, never met. I wonder if they knew
the language of the earth. Now's the time to read.

No rain for weeks as fires burn, moorland out of bounds
insects drinking in the pool, beside the finches
flowers fade as leaves turn brown, caterpillars
crawl on dying leaves   ...   ...   ...   ....
Moth and butterfly lay eggs in vain.
We do not heed,we never have, perhaps
this time we shall, let's hope its not too late.
