The Great Unknown

What’s the meaning of happiness?
Praise yourself then mock the rest
To have all the things and the best
Or to have enough, a little bit less

Did you ever lend a helping hand?
To those inferiors or even unkind
Condemn men like ignored brand
As if you’ll live ‘til the end of time

Do you really think they fear you?
Or is it respect you’re hoping too?
A no king cloaked in brightest hue
Nor a prince wearing golden shoe

Beheld yourself like prudent man
Merit yourself as an anointed one
Your restraint will always be done
And no desire shall come undone

Dress yourself with silks and rags
Hail your name you’d like to brag
Douse your hands in oil and spice
To castigate men to their demise

You often pride with self-loathing
Of grandiose delusion it can bring
A bemoaning war you’ll never win
And ill crusade you painfully cling

Refuse to submit to mortal faults
Morality wilted on lethargic vault
Settle a score with certain assault
Always resolute to draw your colt

Anon you will fade and aged alone
Withered even your heart of stone
Woe is the only thing you can own
Inept to grasp the great unknown
