Acanthus waiting for the rain
Before the window facing east
shadows now where once was sun
windows open, breezes cool
the afternoon until evening
heralds night and sleep.
Acanthus dignifies the border
beside a silver daisy bush
glorying in the heat.its leaves
reflecting the sun with yellow
blooms, Bergenia leaves flaccid
having lost their gloss,rain expected
in a week as clouds say otherwise.
About the Acanthus once again,
the glory of the border,
as once, on Corinthian columns,
inspired Callimachus carve
leaves to decorate the stone
waiting for the rain.
