Verona the Raven

Far to the north where the harsh winds blow
And the hungry waves drink any unfortunate child
The Mistress of Ravens is often confused for a crow
Mysterious and dangerous as she’s completely wild.

She thrives in the harsh cold climate of Frass
Leading unfortunate victims to their untimely doom
No one is safe; neither low nor high class
With the blood of her victims, the Black Death bloom.

She bears her offspring during the lunar eclipse
And their laughter haunts the city of Jentitorc
Sweet poison flows from her black lips
Nothing can pierce the darkness; not even a lit torch.

Pitiful are the ones who become her host
Damned to serve the depraved Verona!
Once she desires a host, she travels down the coast
And will terrorize the weary country, Sastattia.

Author's Note
This is a local lore/song of the country, Sastattia, on the continent, Agax Seucai. For the past 300 years since the country was inhabited, several young people have disappeared, their disappearance noted by the arrival of an unusually large raven often confused for a crow. The Black Death is a black, rose-like flower that supposedly provokes death if inhaled.
