An all too familiar sound

Water dripping from the walk-in compressor,
the hood vents shutting off.
steel oven chains screeching to a halt,
the hum of the coke cooler.
food date tag stickers were vines
hanging down from the urban jungle we survive day to day.
bank deposit bags plastic ruffle amidst perforated tear strips.
the dream catcher in the office is still leaving me trapped
in a nightmare that remains constant.
