phony sunlight in the coldness
we used to come here
sit with our legs crossed
talk about how the cobwebs slowly formed above our heads
while we only sat
trying to bundle through fall and winter fogs
with blankets that you had brought
from when you were little
we walked to the corner store earlier
talked to the man behind the counter
while he counted our change
we hid small laughs walking back
trying to smile less than the other
passing back and forth a cigarette
you wrapping your arm around me when the wind blew
still walking the same line
you always had
we leaned against bricks and mortar
your hand over mine as my nails found cracks to trace
until it was at your core
crumbling underneath the pressure
we slid down the wall
little pieces of cobble fell with us
refusing to look at one another
your hand still over mine
pressing against you
we made our way inside in silence
took careful steps
until we were at the bottom
we were no longer under a ceiling of cobwebs
and you had long since gone
sit with our legs crossed
talk about how the cobwebs slowly formed above our heads
while we only sat
trying to bundle through fall and winter fogs
with blankets that you had brought
from when you were little
we walked to the corner store earlier
talked to the man behind the counter
while he counted our change
we hid small laughs walking back
trying to smile less than the other
