Image for the poem a demon

a demon's song

my heart calls back my anger
but it has a mind of its own
once it's loosed it has life
it won't be gagged or kept back
with teeth that are razor sharp
my demons ride the night
reveling in their freedom from me

I bite their tongues and hold back their bile
but they feel all that I do
when I get hurt they jump to the front
most of you don't know
I'm known as the devil's woman

my demons were once in control of me
I didn't write at all because they spoke for me
don't get me wrong they are not all evil and doom
they have shown me
some wondrous landscapes of the netherworld

lighting up my imagination
with forked cocks
piercing my virgin soul's hymen
drinking my sweet cherry wine
they got drunk off the mortal
and I their divinity

they want to be evil tonight
bite and slash
but again they feel what I do
they know we are loved

so I'm here telling you
about this ancient race
with a beautiful language
that's melodic and lovely
did you know they laugh when they are frightened?

even the mightiest warriors feel fear
they are no exception
sent to me by the universe
I surprised them by offering them my protection
calling them each by name
the very first night we came together

when they pushed in on me
deep inside my mind to separate fact from fiction
it's been years now
I'm no longer their prisoner
they are my royal guards
taking this job very seriously
with pride, they ride the nights in my service

still, they have minds of their own
I pray no mischief
do they make before the dawn's first blush
