Two Worlds One Person

Trying to smother the guilt
but the flames reach higher
to consume the frail standing
of uncertain footing

I get carried to those places
dwelling in the excitement
reactive and willing
to push through certain boundaries

The tranquil peace
a temporary balm
before retracing the steps
to clear away the evidence

I long to justify my actions
but the animal and the human
struggle to negotiate a truce
and accept the whole

I can't help to feel fraudulent
living between two worlds
and fearing that they will collide
and eventually destroy me.
