What I Thought I Wanted

The monolith turned slowly in the fading gloom
The grinding of stone on stone
like the despair of my every need unfulfilled

A jagged arc of neon blue lightning
ripped from a small hole ten feet up it's base
I froze with fear as the gradual rotation paused

A high pitched whistle suddenly accompanied
the crackling electricity and my ears exploded
as I dropped hemorrhaging to my knees

The pillar of rock stopped before me
it's static stream cascading violently down over me
the heat setting my body alight in blue flame

My soul was blasted from my flesh and sent
spinning through the emptiness of space,
at no time in view of any God's loving inspection

I hurled helplessly, cold and alone, past vast suns
and by silent moons all at unbelievable speeds
tumbling over and sideways in sickening motion

My living life's most abject despondencies
were now exalted memories of euphoria
compared to the horrors of this forsaken journey

After thousands of years compressed into seconds
my essence smashed down on a barren floating asteroid
where I coelesced back into a semi-humanoid form

There I drift aimlessly through the void
sending mental distress from my broken dreaming mind
My lone wish for the end finally granted
