Image for the poem Numb me, dead & blue

Numb me, dead & blue

Sleepless raccoon eyes, blank stares
A ghostly figure stands bare & bone
Wanting the pills

Any movement is excruciating effort, crushed & crippled
Any conscious thought feels like an aneurism
Needing the pills

Lay freezing on the cold cracked concrete curb, cool & crisp
Dizzy spells subsiding slightly, silly & sweet
Missing the pills

Orange pills for inflammation, a numbing like
Green pills for circulation though still it leaves me white
Pills for peaking pain not placid

All pills, all my pills—MINE only
Nine pills taken daily to keep my body at ease & warm
Reverse effect now destitute
Numb me, dead & blue
