Father's Day 2018

What type of man do you consider to be a father?
He is the one who took the time to even bother
To stick around long after the climactic ejaculation
And remained so well after high school graduation

In the equation, he may not be the one who sired you
But he inspired you to always do what you're supposed to
A real stand up dude who knew how to show you genuine love
Maybe taught you how to ride a bike or bought your first glove

Above all else he's been there to help guide your every step
Provided a shoulder for you to cry on whenever you wept
Helped you pick yourself up by wiping tears from your eyes
And sheltered you from many of life's storms from outside

He recognized the potential embedded deep within your soul
Remaining in your corner and raising you right were his goals
Wiped your snotty little nose whenever you were catching a cold
Taught you discipline again and again when you didn't do as told

Not to scold you but to mold you into a responsible human being
Teaching sons to be Kings and showing daughters they're Queens
Doesn't get much credit but doesn't regret any sacrifices he's made
Seeing his seeds prosper is his most desired form of being repaid

So on this 2018 Father's Day give love and props to all of your pops
Give him the champagne and all of the praise before his clock stops
Prop up all of those whose fathers have already transitioned on
For many this is a day of celebration but for some it's a day in which they mourn
