keeper of dreams

  
I fall into myself
and find melancholy there waiting within me
she wants to talk with me privately
in hushed tones she whispers she is hurt
I've been treating her badly
 
I've ignored her pain
leaving her alone in the dark
in the city of shadows
where she is at the mercy of my demons
who have none  
for a vulnerable soul such as hers
 
she languishes in cruel torment
while I go about my day to day
blocking out her soft cries of indignity  
 
face to face with her now
I can't hide my shame
she's just a little girl really
who bears my likeness
except she is innocent
I'm quite guilty
 
she is keeper of dreams
for my child within
she means to see them come true
so with gentle reminders
she tells me what I am meant to do
 
there is a calling on my soul
she says "here let me show you
it's all right here in the story of your life
in order to meet with destiny
at exactly the right moment
you must be on about your business
now come hurry"
 
"leave your doubts at the door
we haven't a minute to lose
there are people in your future
you must meet  
come out of the darkness
 it's not only your calling it is fate"

so I leave my distractions behind
and pick up her cause
I will be there to greet you
my predestined future self
