Take This Mirror

It's like a gamble to do what's right
You chose the path of least resistance
You thought you could be a low-key delinquent
That no one would ever really see the difference
But inside of you began to breed division
And with time you began to kinda seem indifferent
And now that you're on your own
It's become plain to see that you're mentally imprisoned
You better get up on your feet and run home, my friend
If you wanna find yourself and be whole again
Coz the pain and the shame in your brain and your veins
Are a strain that are eating at your soul again
I see the tears welling up that you're holding in
And the stone in your throat, yeah I know the trend
It's only at a low that your heart be opening
In the midst of this hopelessness

Now in the present day, I'm in a better place
Granted, I ain't never been a stellar saint
As I evolve from the youngster of yesterday
Can I spot the difference, have I felt the change?
I mean, you can say that my rep is cleaner
From the parties and the dope boys, I kept the metres
The wounds and the scars, I guess they're healing
It's not the grass across the fence that's greener
Your boy's more spiritual in life, but not the best believer
Smarter but not the cleverest genius
Coz I ain't sitting on some pedestal next to Caesar
I'm not a know-it-all, not an expert either
If you think that I'm living in bliss, that thinking should quit
Still fighting the division within
Coz everyday my mind keeps flipping a switch
And the question my mind keeps grilling me with, is

“Do we really gotta do the things that we do?
A question I consider
Should I bother with it all or be drifting through?
What will effort deliver
Will the struggle be in vain to bring the truth?
Enough to change an era
If it's hard to see where we at now
Here please take this mirror...”
