Feeling Sober

I have already been two months sober,
But it still feels like that one October
Night when I was standing in the cold
And being all alone. It is like you fold
When you simply have no more cards
Left to play and all the sharp shards
Of glass keep digging deep into your
Skin. It sometimes takes that one door
To close and another one to be open
Before you truly begin to rope in
Your thoughts. You begin to realize
Everything in your vision and eyes
Are becoming clear again. You can
See where you are going. The man
And ghost within the mirror are gone.
You know there is a new day and dawn
That is always coming around the corner.
You should stop becoming the mourner
For the person you were before you died
To become reborn. It is when you tried
So hard to kill the demons within you
That we both came into this light. To
Say that you are now sober too should
feel like the rest of the world feels good
On someone else’s shoulders. Remember
For how we are today instead of the ember
And pain of yesterday. We have a legacy
And all the names to remember. No jealousy
That runs through our veins or having bad
Blood just because someone else’s sad
Life was slightly better than ours in the end.
We all have lives that find ways to bend.
