Though in my defense
I say no promise is ever kept
But I'm reality my circle of lies is starting to close in on me
I've made one too many promises I fail to keep
I've said one too many lies, it's now hard to tell which excuse is real
Though in my defense
I say I'm human I make mistakes
But in reality my mistakes start to seem intentional
Because I keep making one after another
Because I know I'm sorry and all will be forgiven
Though in my defense
I scream loud as a rock star saying I'm not perfect
But in reality I've just taken advantage of the kindness you've given
I've said this and that to you and you've believed me
You've kept quiet and said nothing even though I know you can see right through me
Though in my defense I say I'll never do it again
But in reality the truth remains I'm bound to say those words again
When all is said and done, tears start rolling down your checks
I know that's true love that beats your chest
No amount of tissue will wipe away what your heart bleeds
Though in my defense I swear I'm gonna change
But in reality I know this is one promise I'm also going to fail
