Spring Day

Fresh cut grass and gasoline
Asphalt and tar simmering
Happy laughter from somewhere near
And the clink of ice cubes hitting glass
A springtime day that feels like summer
With humidity high and damp underarms
Sprinklers watering the fresh sown grass seed
And tomato plants newly planted in the ground
There are thunderstorms a long way out west
Threatening their wrath come the end of the day
But for now the sun shines and the kids play
It’s Toronto on the last day of May
