Image for the poem Some People

Some People

we walk to the local market
a car almost runs us over
in my head I’m thinking
what the f#@k!
now I could lose my cool
flip them the bird
even say some profane words
but when I look over at you
carefree with that loving smirk
I just have to roll my eyes
and say “some people”

we grab us a couple donuts
head towards the checkout
only to have someone cut in front of us
now I could throw my freshly baked pastry
towards this inconsiderate fella’s head
but when I look over at you
with those bright peepers
I just roll my eyes
and say “some people”

everyday it seems to be a new day
having people irk me
telemarketers waking me up
kids playing in my front yard
the parents who don’t watch them!
oh, but as much as life irks me
one thing is true
all of that fades
when I set my sights on you

as we walk our way back
I see our beautiful home
right next to our republican neighbor
with his truck that has balls
and that gaudy nra flag hanging from his front porch
he’s always staring me down
guess he has some kind of problem
now I could tell him where he could
stick that nra pole
maybe even get into an old fashion tussle
but when I look over at you
with nothing in mind
only the love for each other
I just have to roll my eyes
and say “some people”
