Image for the poem Unhinged

Unhinged

Four concrete walls are grinding in
Their insistence is that he has sinned
Victims whisper from the past
Each more accusing than the last

Echoes up and down the hall
Shadows emerging to their call
What he has sown, so shall he reap
And sacrifice a few years' sleep

The ceiling glows around midnight
Descends before the early light
Abrasion of his stolen face
Well ground to "Amazing Grace"

He rises despite the rust
Never knowing whom to trust
Reason in riot, nerves deeply singed
Another mind fully unhinged.
