Vaquero Hero

Forget Worms and Words
when it comes to heroes,
as real ones do not wear a cape
or have long winded introductions
detailing every damn superpower
in an infinitely increasing contest.
No, real heroes
appear when you least expect it
especially if you're the unlucky schmuck
pointing a gun at them,
only to take your eyes off the prize
as they coolly remove their glasses
and grab you in surprise
disarming in alarming speed.
Even if you think you're a though
young punk playing
at being a mean gangsta,
its Age before Beauty
and they will have you beat
because they are the old school badass
who does what is needed
without fuss or over showy pomp
simply doing the right thing.
Especially as they were just at the counter
before your punk ass jumped the line
waving a gun like its a wand,
but a cowboy hat is where it is at
and as they subdue in a chokehold
the would be criminal,
that hat does not budge an inch
just like how much they care
about your 'thug life':
because cowboys are always cool
and the Wild West spirit makes real heroes.

Entry for day 25 of the NaPo competition based on the prompt of "25. Superworm : Faster than a salty slug, more powerful than a beetle's shell, able to inch tall blades of grass in a single move ( sometimes. . .depends on when the grass has been cut ). The grub of Krypton is now the Worm of Steel: Superworm! Write about his or her adventures in saving DUP from an Invasion of the Poem Snatchers." Sorry Superworm, but there is a new Sheriff in town and he deserves a poem way more than you.
