Lamentations of a Horror Writer

A mess, a miserable menagerie of characters
The magnum opus obliterated in a cycle’s notice
A carefully crafted epic, the prose constructed so aesthetic
A pulsing pinprick on an exposed wound
Erased in a flash, never existed
The meticulously scribbled manuscript
A sacred oath developed sword under microscope
Heart and soul pumped within it’s frightful confines
Useless rubbish amateur or average

A flash, a boom like nuclear annihilation
Now a wasteland of the mind and body
The Fury Road of future dreams and ambitions
Surrendering, all  is lost, the strong feed on the weak
Crushing bones in formaldehyde stained mandibles
The snaps and meaty crunch compose a vile chorus
The images are present, the essence of fear prepared
visceral, uncanny don’t give it to your nanny
I can make the skin fall off your bones,
Crafting grotesque words
manipulating nightmares

To possess the stalking demons and ghouls incarnate
Becoming the shadow caster on a life of conformity
I am to bear the curse of death upon your door
Ten dollars now on Amazon prime, please order more
That wasn’t an advertisement, it’s an allegory for the poem
Perhaps I should change my name to Allen Gregory
That’s a fine name, a good pseudonym

Straining to merely focus
Allen Gregory must complete his novel
A tale of a ghost, the FBI, a cult…
Disturbing revelations, shocking twists and gore
Traumatic themes and deep psycho analysis
A book comprised of it all, a modern masterpiece
Calls residence to a clearance bin for 5 dollars
Four or five months of life, utterly pointless
Just a Penniless fraud living in Mom’s basement.

How the hell does Stephen King do it?
Three thousand words a day
Does he mean it?
