THE BREATH OF SPRING

The sultry stems of the rose bushes gently sway in the spring breeze
 to the high pitched guttural chirps of eager mating songs
 from the robins and the sparrows,
 each seeking their own companion in their own seductive manner
as the cool wind swims through the day and gradually fades
before sweeping in again in it's continuous pulse
The crimson flowers begin to blossom
and will continue to grow over the days and the weeks
until they finally bow down their exquisite heads
their slender thorny necks no longer able to support
the weight of their own beauty
Eventually they will whither and fade
yet remember that they will be remembered
for what they were and will always be
The Spring exhales once more
each rhythmic breath bringing with it
the subtle fragrance of far off flowers
and the distant rain
as fleets of maple seed helicopters swarm in
flickering and fluttering like flesh toned butterflies
or naked airy fairies dancing within their element
each seeking their own plot of land
upon the lush fertile earth
where they might marry the rich soil
and begin their new life
for the countless seasons to come
Some will become saplings
and some will even endure the harsh trials
of the changing whims of dry summers and icy winters
to gradually transform into the elegant and solid forms
which their mothers and fathers had become
while others will never find their desired destination,
left adrift upon the tranquil pond
or strewn out upon the barren cobblestones
to slowly whither and fade
without ever a chance of truly being born,
yet content with knowing that on one day they flew
truly alive and free
upon the perfumed breath of Spring
