Lake Charles Memorial Swing

I was born on a pretty little downtown street
Tellin' my story, makin Lake Charles Memorial swing
Doctor said, "We ain't got no vaccine;
this baby's gonna catch the jazz by age 18!"

-

Upright sunshine pluckin' the old oak trees;
I heard the summertime tappin' out a rhythm on the evening breeze
The songbirds stacked some brass on top of that beat -
I's wailin' at the doctor, Louisiana makin' me sing:

I was born for New Or...
...leans, and she was meant for me!
I was born for Loui...
...siana and
she was meant for me!

-

From the top of that boot, all the way down to the sole
Every city in it sang a ditty that would follow me home!
Every little bit of rhythm on the west of the Pontchartrain
visited the hospital on the fifteenth day of May.

I was born for New Or...
...leans, and she was meant for me!
I was born for Loui...
...siana and
she was meant for me!
