Broncos Strong

Skates on ice furious and fast
Playing with the spirit of their crest
Wild and free - sixty-minute games
Young guns light the lamp.
Fans in stands six thousand strong
Cheering, roaring
Uniting with stampede thunder.
Young adults and teenagers
Sixteen to twenty-one
Playing Canada's game
Living the dream having fun.
A blink of eye everything stands still
The world feels a numbing chill.
But even though fifteen
Humboldt Broncos
Will never take the ice,
They continue to play in Heaven's rink.
Saskatchewan, take a moment to remember - think
Then sound with an un-ending roar
To lift your spirits, soar
Because at our core
We are all
Broncos Strong!

Author's Note
On Friday, April 5th, 2018 a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team collided with a semi en route to a playoff game. Fifteen were killed including players, coaches and media personnel. Fourteen others were also injured, including two criticality. I did not know any of the players personally, they were my college classmates and I wrote this poem in their memory.
