We Talk by Phone
My nephew calls me from the road
On the way back from the lab
He does science things
Stuff I could never understand
Since I don't have too
I assume he's saving the world
One experiment at a time
Phone is how we connect
Once in awhile text
We talk philosophy, human condition
The wonders of baseball
Kinetics of a slow curve
Stealing home
Dynamics of dealing with women
I treasure this relationship
He may think I'm smarter than I am
He's the scientist
I'm the poet and artist and lumber salesman
We've always connected in heady ways
He wrote his first poem recently
In the style of his uncle, fucking nailed it
On the way back from the lab
He does science things
Stuff I could never understand
Since I don't have too
I assume he's saving the world
One experiment at a time
Phone is how we connect
