Crawling Like a Worm Through the Soil of Eden
And with each day
I'm reminded of rose petals
Curling in the gentle breeze
Of an August afternoon
The way your eyelashes do:
Prairie grass
Batting at the stem
Together
In waves
With the wind
Or lillies
In a flower bed
Leaning out
In the fading light
Of an Autumn evening.
Each day, I look at you
Like into a window
I want to climb through:
A thief
At the Pearly Gates
Trying to find another way in.
I'm reminded of rose petals
Curling in the gentle breeze
Of an August afternoon
The way your eyelashes do:
Prairie grass
Batting at the stem
Together
In waves
With the wind
Or lillies
In a flower bed
Leaning out
In the fading light
Of an Autumn evening.
Each day, I look at you
Like into a window
I want to climb through:
A thief
At the Pearly Gates
Trying to find another way in.
