thief

orange light captive in glass
shines in broken slants through swarming dust.
a silence marks a prayer spared for a night of longing.
hands bared to unpresent ghosts passing
through tangles of exhausted imagination.
her face breaks in, a thief in the apathy,
chisels a sample of heart and retreats.
the fresh wound awakens me
only to regret my sleep.
