On Main Street

A clutter of buildings
Perched on hills and sidewalk bends  
Overseen by century old steeples  
Still whispering rustic hymns  
 
Through the collection of antique deer paths
Stretching out a little wider now  
Catering the iron cages rolling through concrete foliage  
 
Casting an artificial shade over the mulched forest floor  
Stamped down by construction plagued summers
Replacing grassy pasture with asphalt fissures
 
Another layer of paint to an ever changing canvas  
Patch work repairs on a tangible landscape  
Waiting to reclaim its former beauty  
Or be re packaged again into another comfortable habitat
