Burning Shangri-la

Hands gripped in the darkest of night
Clamored our love to the unquiet sky
Dance our sorrow in the fleeting light
Soon we’ll whisper our long goodbye

We drew our vows through the stars
Primed a journey on the farthest land
As valiant heroes, we travelled so far
To unknown shores and glorified sun

As the pompous stride tilted forward
I’ll hold your hands adjacent to heart
We hopped through dirges as reward
Bridged the gulf between end to start

It’s a fantasy no man’s dare not wake
Sublime beauty below heaven’s gate
With appeal my eyes can barely take
And the flaming desire one too great

Then time has come to test your will
Forged a doubt as the sharpest steel
Treachery became your eminent skill
Affliction was served like a bitter pill

A battle fought behind a lover’s soul
Like mighty king that once stood tall
As courage crashed by wrecking ball
So as the little comfort they’ve stole

I had embraced your empty promise
Of broken words and simulated bliss
One last time we shared a torpid kiss
Neath somber sky and times like this

All hopes and dreams burned down
They howled shambles across town
I laid my body on this burial ground
And prayed of something profound

Is this my bounty for undying ardor?
As I bare my heart with such candor
If there’s a way to go back as before
Still love you, now and forevermore
