We Lie
You lie
- You promised to love us,
forever you said
-This wasn't how forever,
looked in my head
YOU LIE!
-You promised to care for us,
no matter what life brought
- In the end, truth is,
we weren't even a thought
YOU LIE!
-You'd never hurt us again,
was the promise you made
-But OH how quickly,
that promise would fade
YOU LIE!
-You continued living life,
like we were never there
-As though the child we created,
was nothing, but air
YOU LIE!
-You were supposed to be a husband,
and more, a father
-Reality set in,
and we were just a bother
YOU LIE!
-Now you lie in a way,
I can't even explain
-To my son who seeks answers,
from my mouth, in vain
YOU LIE!
-Now you lie in the ground,
no more chances for hope
-While I'm left here wondering
"How do we cope?"
At least my son is safe
and protected from you.
At least I can try to make
your promises true.
I LIE!
-I tell him you loved him,
more than anything else
-Though I'm sure your love,
was all for yourself
I LIE!
-I show him your pictures,
whenever he wants
-I ignore the time gaps,
that go on for months
I LIE!
-I try never to speak
ill of your name
-Im sure he'll learn the truth
all the same
I LIE!
-I tell him all your stories,
and try to be sincere
-A hard thing to do,
when your life revolved around beer
I LIE!
-I say that you tried,
to be a good dad
-Honestly, for you,
I think it was a fad
Now I LIE in ways I can barely maintain
To my son, who I can't bare to see in pain
Now I LIE in his bed and sing him to sleep
While he brushes my face saying "mommy don't weep".

Author's Note
4 years, a marriage, a son. He never could stop drinking, or even control it at the end. He abused, we separated, less than a year later he died in a drunk driving motorcycle accident.

yes. can't imagine the ones who have and are borne and bearing the what can only be described as selfish acts. Addiction is not uncommon the problem is the resistance to seeking help, can see as a man how hard it can be to accept the fact that a man needs help, and that reluctance/resistance blinds the most important of responsibilities, the nearest and dearest ones.
felt deep, though no way as deep as the poet here the impact, the calamitous one and the emotional and painful journey that the time was and is now.
expressed excellently and effectively
for the expression truly moves the reader.
