Island

You were the ocean new and inviting
I dove deep into your cool waters and swam
You were the turquoise sea beneath the summer sun
I relaxed beside you with beaded sweat, bronzing my skin
You were the ocean that shimmered aquamarine
I sat and watched your tide rise and fall
You were the enchanted sea
I was hypnotized by the rhythm of your waves
You were the gulf whose boundaries I could not see
I walked along your beaches holding hands
You were the orange-capped waves while the sun was setting
I had grown tired of my vacation, ready to pack up and go home
You were the tempest tossed sea
I observed the stars above as sailors might, trying to navigate
You were the waters of the briny sea
I shed my salty tears over you
You were the deep blue abyss
I no longer feel the pull of your currents
You became a bay of calm serenity
And I surrounded by you, yet all alone, I had become an island
