Pencil in a Tree

Mary Oliver walks in the woods alone
Ever slower until finally stops to scribble
The rays of light shafting through the branches
To record the color and curls of the leaves
The feel of coolness from the green all around
And the stillness of the woods that is at once
Peaceful and yet alive with the sounds of nature
From every direction that soothes the souls
Of those who take the time to be aware
And let it all sink in
Appreciate the unnoticed
Listen to the unheard
See the things that happen
When no one else is around
Life is simple and life is hard
Let nature take its course
Let it have its way
Be there to see it
Make it a part of you
She hides her pencil in a tree
Then slowly walks away
Her smile still reflecting
On the surface of the pond
